Window Snyder: A Pioneer in Computer Security
Starting off, we have Window Snyder, an American computer scientist and chief security officer based in San Francisco. Snyder is also the co-author of ‘Threat Modelling’. Currently, she is the Founder and CEO of Thistlel Technologies, which provides a “secure foundation for devices.”
Agnes Meyer Driscoll: Leading Cryptanalyst for the U.S. Navy
Next is Agnes Meyer Driscoll, who led cryptanalysis for the U.S. Navy during WWII. Driscoll graduated from Ohio State University in 1911 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Physics. During her career, Driscoll helped to co-develop one of the first cipher machines (CM), which protects commercial, diplomatic, and military communication. She also broke the Japanese Navy manual codes, which were exploited by the U.S. Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Ada Lovelace: The World’s First Computer Programmer
The next inspirational woman is Ada Lovelace, regarded as the world’s first-ever computer programmer. Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer who studied advanced mathematics with University of London professor Augustus de Morgan. She also published the first algorithm for Charles Babbage’s mechanical general-purpose computer.
Tarah Wheeler: Cybersecurity Executive and Activist
Finally, we have Tarah Wheeler, an American technology and cybersecurity executive based in Washington. Wheeler is the author of ‘Women in Tech’ and is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Red Queen Technologies, leading cybersecurity critical infrastructure product development and business growth. She is also well known for her online activism and discussions on cyberterrorism and cyberattacks.
